3. In which classes can the iRobot Factory be used most effectively?

The iRobot Factory can be flexibly used in various school subjects such as computer science or technology classes, in extracurricular clubs, or elective courses. It can also be used outside of traditional schools—for example, in technical training programs, vocational schools, or universities. Educators and trainers can adapt the software to fit the specific needs and focus areas of their teaching.

We recommend using the iRobot Factory starting from grade 8. However, experiences from other teachers show that using it in earlier grades is also entirely possible.

4.Who is behind the iRobot Factory?

The iRobot Factory is developed by Einfach Genial gGmbH. Our goal is to foster civic engagement in digital education and build bridges between the analog and digital worlds. We support young people in expanding their horizons and shaping their own paths in life. Together with our target audience, we develop cross-educational learning and motivational software to promote equal digital opportunities and participation. By involving users in the development process, we create innovative learning methods and provide free educational software that is available anytime. The iRobot Factory is funded by the Walter Nebel Foundation.

The iRobot Factory teacher workshops, titled „Die Integration der iRobot Factory in den schulischen Alltag“, are organized by the NLQ (Niedersächsisches Landesinstitut für schulische Qualitätsentwicklung).

1. We use reset or kiosk software (e.g., IServ, HD-Guard, etc.) and have to re-enter the license key every time. What can we do?

The iRobot Factory must be added as an exception within your reset or kiosk software to prevent it from requesting the license key on every startup.

No worries: entering the license key multiple times on the same device has no impact on the number of available seats/licenses.

2. I purchased the Level Editor and want to install it. Is there anything I should be aware of?

If the iRobot Factory has already been installed and activated with a license key on the device, the software must be completely uninstalled before downloading and installing the Level Editor.

3. Where are my robots saved?

Robots that are saved using the “Save” button are located here:

  •  C:\Users\USER_NAME\Appdata\LocalLow\EinfachGenial\I-Robot-Factory\Robots

  •  In the browsers „indexedDB“

If you want to share a robot (e.g., with students, colleagues, or friends), we recommend exporting it via the robot-building menu using the “Export .rbt” option. The programming of the robot is included in the file.

You will be prompted to choose a save location during export. In the WebGL version, this prompt may not appear. In that case, the robot file will be saved in the default Downloads folder.

4. Where are my screenshots saved?

In the Windows version, screenshots are saved in::

  • C:\Users\USER_NAME\Documents\I-Robot-Factory\Screenshots

In the WebGL version, you’ll usually be asked to select a save location. If not, the screenshot is automatically saved in the Downloads folder
